River blindness mail pack
The river blindness story is tricky to communicate, due to the nature of the condition.
First, flies bite people, laying their eggs beneath the skin. The eggs hatch into worms which grow and multiply inside the body. Then, eventually, these worms invade the eyes, causing permanent blindness – yet all this can be prevented with a simple tablet that Sightsavers distributes.
The idea here was to reduce the story to its very essence; ‘flies can take away your eyes; a simple tablet can protect them’ – and to make that clear and arresting.
